Our Team for Architecture for Quality of Life

At LAM architects, our core team consists of two people. This allows us to remain personally involved in every project, maintain short communication lines and offer our clients direct access to the people leading the design process.

We combine the personal attention of a small studio with the expertise and capacity of a much larger multidisciplinary network when projects require it.

Menno Lam

Elize Lam

Architect | Co-Creator | Specialist in Biophilic Architecture   Social Strategist | Process Facilitator | Researcher

Menno is an architect, designer and co-creator with a strong focus on Biophilic Design and architecture that enhances quality of life.

His work goes beyond the creation of buildings alone. It explores the relationship between people, nature and the built environment, aiming to create places that support health, wellbeing, connection and everyday experience.

Every project starts with understanding how people use and experience a place. Rather than designing from a predefined style, he develops architecture that grows from context, behaviour, landscape and human needs.

Menno combines a technical background in Building Engineering with a Master's degree in Architecture from the Academy of Architecture in Rotterdam. Since graduating in 2000, he has worked on a wide range of projects, from interiors and private residences to large-scale public, industrial and commercial buildings, several of which received national and international recognition.

International study trips and masterclasses have strongly influenced his design approach. In the United States he studied the work of architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, John Lautner and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. In Australia he continued his education with Glenn Murcutt, Peter Stutchbury and Richard Leplastrier.

He also participated in the international masterclass Sustainable Architecture Inspired by the Landscape in Ireland.

Menno combines creative vision with technical expertise and is experienced in translating ambitious ideas into healthy, sustainable and buildable architecture. His ability to connect architectural thinking with technical and organisational realities has made him a valued collaborator within multidisciplinary teams, including projects led by engineering consultancies and specialist advisors.

In addition to his design practice, he regularly lectures on Biophilic Design, nature-based architecture, wellbeing and healthy buildings.

He is a registered architect (SBA no. 1.010101.014), a member of the Dutch Association of Architects (BNA) and affiliated with the Biophilic Design Academy.

Elize is a social strategist, researcher and process facilitator who brings a strong human-centred perspective to the practice.

She holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences from Utrecht University. Throughout her career, she has worked as an independent researcher, advisor, author and facilitator, focusing on the relationship between people, communities and their living environment.

Her work explores how social connections, wellbeing, resilience and a sense of belonging are influenced by the environments in which people live, work and meet. She believes that architecture should not only respond to functional requirements, but also support human wellbeing, social cohesion and meaningful everyday experiences.

As an experienced researcher and facilitator, Elize helps uncover the human dimension of complex projects. Through stakeholder engagement, dialogue and research, she creates clarity, builds shared understanding and helps align diverse interests and perspectives.

Her expertise strengthens the social foundation of the design process, ensuring that projects respond not only to physical and environmental challenges but also to the needs, aspirations and experiences of the people they serve.

Alongside her work for LAM architects, she is actively involved with Steunkracht, where she works as an independent researcher, advisor, author and facilitator. She regularly contributes to publications, research projects and public discussions on wellbeing, resilience, social networks and the importance of supportive environments.

Collaboration & Project Teams

Although our core team is intentionally compact, we regularly collaborate with a broad network of trusted specialists and partner organisations.

Depending on the project, we can work independently, assemble a bespoke design team, or integrate seamlessly into an existing multidisciplinary project team. We are equally comfortable working alongside architects, landscape architects, engineers, ecologists, exhibit designers, researchers and sustainability consultants.

Over the years, we have developed long-term collaborations with a range of engineering consultancies and specialist advisors. At the same time, we frequently work with local engineering firms and project-specific specialists selected by our clients.

We do not seek to replace existing consultants or design disciplines. Instead, we contribute specialist expertise in Biophilic Design, Quality of Life Design, Nature Experience Design and Animal Habitat Design as part of a wider collaborative team.

This flexible approach allows us to adapt to the needs of each project and organisation. Whether commissioned directly by a client, invited by another designer, or engaged as a specialist consultant within a larger multidisciplinary team, we focus on adding expertise, strengthening collaboration and creating integrated design solutions.
